PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To place a user interface panel device near the personal computer, monitor, or keyboard of an end user by providing a detachable user interface panel and a means by which the user interface panel communicates with peripheral equipment. SOLUTION: The peripheral equipment is provided with a detachable user interface panel 201 and a means by which the user interface panel 102 communicates with the peripheral equipment. Thus, the user interface panel 102 on the peripheral equipment such as a scanner can be detached and then arranged on a more convenient place, e.g. near the computer, monitor, or keyboard of the end user or on a desk. Then the end user sends commands to the peripheral equipment by a universal serial bus, a cable, infrared transmission, or other optical communication links to remotely control the remote peripheral equipment.
