PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the total capacity of backup data by detecting common parts in data (file group) that respective clients have and saving (backing up) the common parts between the data of the clients and characteristic parts of the data of the respective clients separately. SOLUTION: This system comprises four components which are a server 10, a network 20, and clients A30 and B31. The clients A30 and B31 are connected to each other through the server 10 via the network 20. The clients A30 and B31 have files locally and transmit the respective files to the sever 10 when they are backed up. The server 10 divides the files sent from the clients into common parts and characteristic parts by a common/characteristic part classification process 101 and stores the common parts in a common storage 103, and the characteristic parts of the client A30 in a client-A characteristic part storage A041 and the characteristic parts of the client B31 in a client-B characteristic storage A042.
