PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval device capable of easily preparing a retrieval expression and reflecting user's intention to the weight of a keyword. SOLUTION: A user 101 inputs a retrieval expression expressed by a set of propositions using modality codes through an interface 102. The retrieval expression is transferred to a document set specification part 106 through a retrieval input part 104. The specification part 106 refers to an index 108, specifies a document set whose proposition is true and writes the specified document set in a work area 110. A degree-of-association calculation part 112 calculates the degree of association of the specified document set and writes the calculated value in the work area 110. A retrieved result output part 116 refers to the work area 110 and ranks the specified document set by adding a truth value and the degree of association and outputs the ranked result to the interface 102 as a retrieved result. A common keyword extraction part 118 extracts an output keyword from the ranked document set, adds a modality code to the keyword and then outputs the code added keyword to the interface 102.
