PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground heat storage system in which cost can be reduced by utilizing cold of outdoor air sufficiently. SOLUTION: In the underground heat storage system 10, a fluorocarbon based refrigerant is fed to a circulation passage constituted by coupling a cooler 12 with a heat exchanging pipe 14 through piping 16, 18. The piping 16 is provided with a pump 30 and coupled with a pipe 26 for bypassing the pump 30. A controller 24 controls a bypass valve 28 provided in the bypass pipe 26 and the pump 30 based on the difference of measurements between thermometers 20, 22 and switches the refrigerant between natural circulation and forced circulation.
