This invention aims to create herbicides for paddy fields which show high safety on rice plants and high effects on weeds in wide range of annual and perennial weeds grown in paddy fields, as well as on weeds being resistant against herbicides as enzyme inhibitor of acetobutyric acid synthesis. Herbicidal compositions for paddy fields characterized by containing a compound of 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one(common name: Oxadiazon), or 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-propargyloxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one (common name: Oxadiargyl, and one or more compounds selected from the chemical group consisting of Bensulfuron-methyl, Azimusulfuron, Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, Imazosulfuron, Ethoxysulfuron and Cyclosulfamuron.
