CELLULAR PROTEIN P60 THAT INTERACTS WITH HERPESVIRUS REGULATORY PROTEINS

The invention discloses p60, a novel cellular protein, which interacts with herpesvirus regulatory proteins. Analyses of binding to HSV-1 proteins revealed that p60 bound one isoform wild-type ICP22. The p60 binding site has been mapped to a stretch of approximately 16 amino acids located close to the carboxyl terminus of ICP22, a domain essential for the processing of ICP22. The interaction of p60 with only one ICP22 isoform indicates a specific function for that isoform. p60 also bound ICP0, the binding of which was independent of that of ICP22.
