The invention relates to a method for carrying out the transition metal- catalyzed dimerization or codimerization of alkenes. The inventive method is characterized in that the dimerization or codimerization is carried out in compressed carbon dioxide which serves as a solvent. The invention also relates to methods in which the compressed carbon dioxide is used as a solve nt for the dimerization or codimerization and for the successive processing of the products. The invention especially relates to the use of such methods in order to produce anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving pharmaceuticals.
