SNAP-ON CAP AND CONTAINER

There is described a snap-off cap (40) in combination with a container (10). The container (10) comprises an opening and a curvilinear formation surrounding the opening. In cross-section the formation includes a first convex arcuate surface (24). The cap (40) comprises a top of sufficient size to cover the opening. A first complimentary curvilinear wall (60) of resilient material depends from the top. The curvilinear wall (68) is sized to snap into engagement with, and inwardly of, the formation such that in cross-section the curvilinear wall (68) at least partially conforms to the shape of the first convex arcuate surface (24). The combination is such that when the cap (40) is initially snapped-off the container (10) a first part of the curvilinear wall (68) is disengaged from the formation while a second part remains in engagement therewith. Further pivotal movement of the cap (40) away from the container (10) increases the arcuate extent of the first disengaged part of the curvilinear wall (68) and correspondingly decreases the curvilinear extent of the second engaged part. Ultimately an induced deformation of the decreasing second engaged part causes the cap (40) to flip-off the container (10) and out of engagement therewith. There is also described a snap-off cap (40) for a container (10) in which the cap (40) is trilobate in plan view.
