The holder (1) has a tubular shaft (2) with two oppositely moving jaws (4,5) at its distal end (3) and an operating handle at its proximal end (11). A transfer element inside the shaft moves the jaws. A suture channel (9) extends through the wall of the shaft and is open, at least at the distal end. Preferably, the proximal end of the channel is open, close to the operating handle or connection between the shaft and the handle.
