An animal feeder has a base in which food or water may be placed, a cover (2 ) for the contents of the base, and means for detecting the presence or absenc e of an animal and for causing the cover to be opened, or to be allowed to clo se according to the relative movement between a first cam (14) associated with the cover (2) and a second cam (11) responsive to the detecting means.
