A shattering casing comprises a hand grenade inserted into a casing made of a filling (2) arranged between an inner (3) and an outer plastic casing (4). The filling is formed from metal or metal oxide chips embedded in a hydraulic binder. The chips have a particle size of more than 1 mm. The inner casing and the outer casing are made of biologically degradable plastic. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the chip material. Preferred Features: The binder is cement. The metal is steel or cast iron. The metal oxide is iron oxide.
