A method for accurately measuring a bacterial count (even a small bacterial count) within a short period of time without effecting to any special pretreatments such as incubation, which comprises measuring the concentration of oxygen dissolved in a liquid medium containing a specimen by using an oxygen electrode 3a; measuring the time required for lowering the dissolved oxygen concentration to almost 0 with a time measuring unit 3b; and outputting the bacterial count from a bacterial count outputting unit 3e based on the time required and a calibration curve.
