<p>A method is disclosed for increasing signalling link capacity between nodes (14, 16) in a digital cellular communications system (10), wherein the signalling message to be conveyed over the link (17) is compressed. The compressed message received at the other side of the link (17) is then decompressed. As a consequence, the capacity of the signalling links (17) between nodes (14, 16) can be increased up to 100 %, and mobile station registration restrictions can be reduced. The method is disclosed for compressing MTP messages, but it can also be used for compressing other signalling messages to improve link capacity.</p> |
