PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device for a motor for starting the engine of an air conditioner with a long service life and little limitations on its design and construction by using a large capacity capacitor, such as an electric double layer capacitor for the power source of the motor for starting the engine. SOLUTION: In a power supply device for driving a motor 2 for starting the engine 1 of an air conditioner with a refrigerating cycle having a compressor driven by the engine 1, a power source 6 connects a secondary battery 4 to a large capacity capacitor 5. Upon the start of the engine 1, power stored in the capacitor 5 is supplied to the motor 2. During the operation of the engine 1, regenerative power from the motor 2 is stored in the large capacity capacitor 5.
