METHOD FOR MULTIPLEXING IMAGE SIGNAL, TRANSMISSION METHOD AND SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an image signal suitable for up-convert to the HDTV system by frequency-converting a horizontal high definition area component or a vertical high definition area component in existence on and over a line specified by a signal standard of a specific system and superimposing the frequency-converted component onto a definition area whose signal component has been eliminated to make full use of components having conventionally been cut by a filter of a camera or the like according to the standards. SOLUTION: In the case of up-converting an image signal of the 480 P system to an image signal of the HDTV system, a component in an area A (horizontal high definition area-vertical high definition area) is cut off among components of 480 P system image signals on and above a slanted line 1 tying a point 1080 Lpw and a point 480 Lph, a component of an area B (horizontal high definition area-vertical low definition area) is frequency-converted and superimposed onto the area A. The range of the area A to be cut off ranges from a vertical high definition is 320 Lph or over with respect to a horizontal high resolution of 1080 to a horizontal high definition of 360 Lpw or over. A decoded image signal has higher horizontal definition than that of the image signal of the 480 P system and then a picture with an excellent high resolution characteristic can be obtained.
