The invention relates to a chain element for a curve-going conveyor chain, comprising a support plate (1) which is provided with link lugs (3, 4) on opposite leading edges (8, 9), said link lugs forming links with the link lugs of adjacent chain elements respectively by means of connecting pins; and a guide part (2) which is oriented in the longitudinal direction (arrow 7) of the conveyor chain, underneath the support plate (1). The guide part has a single lug (3) at one end and two parallel lugs (4) set apart from each other at the other end, for the links. At least one leading edge (8, 9) of the support plate situated crosswise to the longitudinal direction (7) is offset and both leading edges (8, 9) of the support plate extend into the area above the axes (10) of the associated link. Covering segments (15) are located on the leading edge (8) that is allocated to the parallel lugs (4), on both sides of the parallel lugs (4). Said covering segments extend outwards as far as the leading edges (14) of the support plate (1) and under the support plate of the adjacent chain element.
