PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assay the characteristics of Flammulina velutipes fungal cells by culturing the fungal cells in a medium containing a specific coloring matter and screening the fungal cells thus cultured with the medium color as indicator so as to stably produce Flammulina velutipes through suppressing the production loss due to, for example, contaminating the spawns with mutant. SOLUTION: This method for assaying the characteristics of Flammulina velutipes fungal cells comprises the following practice: Flammulina velutipes fungal cells are cultured in a medium containing Bromothymol Blue, and the Flammulina velutipes fungal cells thus cultured are screened with the medium color as indicator; alternatively, Flammulina velutipes fungal cells are cultured in a medium containing Bromothymol Blue, and the mutant of the fungal cells is screened with the medium color as indicator; further alternatively, Flammulina velutipes fungal cells are cultured in a medium containing Bromothymol Blue, and the basidiocarp-forming ability of the fungal cells are judged with the medium color as indicator.
