PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the mercury removing efficiency of a conventional wet scrubber system especially like in such a case that industrial gas is subjected to preceding treatment by an electric precipitator ESP, as a method for reducing the content of mercury in industrial gas flowing out of a wet scrubber. SOLUTION: A chelating agent 50 is supplied to a slurry or liquid used in the scrubbing of flue gas 16 in an amt. sufficient to reduce a degree converting Hg2+ to Hg0 by at least one transition metal. Advantageously, the chelating agent is ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA). EDTA prevents the reduction of mercury of an oxidized form to elemental mercury and the mercury removing efficiency of a wet scrubber 30 is increased. |
