PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting hexagonal boron nitride to cubic boron nitride developed in idiomorphic face, having a sharp edge and excellent in cutting quality. SOLUTION: The hexagonal boron nitride is converted to the cubic boron nitride by existing one or more kinds of compounds selected from the boron nitride of alkali metals or the boron nitride of alkaline earth metals and one or more kinds of compounds selected from the amide, imide, carbide of alkali metals or the amide, imide, carbide of alkaline earth metals under a temp. and pressure condition in a stable region of the cubic boron nitride.
