PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a rotor at the temperature of a practical range by providing cooling fluid passages on both sides of heating chambers for all rotors in a viscous heater heating a viscous fluid provided between the wall faces of the heating chambers and the surfaces of rotors via the rotation of the rotors. SOLUTION: A viscous fluid is filled between the front surfaces of rotors 8 and a front side wall face 11c and between the rear surfaces of the rotors 8 and a rear side wall face 11d for the operation of a viscous heater 1, and the viscous fluid is sheared to generate heat when a rotary drive shaft 7 is driven to rotate the rotors 8. Irregular grooves are formed on the whole surface of the front side wall face 11c of a front side plate 11a, outer peripheral fins, intermediate fins and inner peripheral fins are concentrically protruded on the front face of the front side plate 11a, and cooling fluid passages 17 are formed between the recessed portion between the fins and the inner face of the front side housing 2. The cooling fluid flowing in from a cooling fluid inflow port is fed to the cooling fluid passages 17.
