GENE INTRODUCTION USING THERMOPHILIC PHAGE PHI IN93

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To express an extraneous gene which produces an active form of thermally stable protein or the like by transforming thermophilic bacteria belonging to the genus Thermus bacteria infected with the phage obtained after introducing the extraneous gene into thermophilic phageϕIN93 followed by cultivation. SOLUTION: By initially introducing an extraneous gene, e.g. a gene or the like encoding a thermally stable protein, into thermophilic phageϕIN93, transforming the thermophilic bacteria belonging to the genus Thermus bacteria [e.g. the strain Thermus aquaticus TZ 2 (FERM P-13713) or the like] infected with this phage and then cultivating the resultant transformed bacteria consisting of the bacteria belonging to the genus Thermus bacteria infected with this thermophilic phageϕIN 93 at a culture temperature of 70 deg.C or above, the extraneous gene, particularly the thermotolerant extraneous gene, is efficiently expressed in the state of holding a thermally stable structure.
