PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a friction material which has a high rust-removing effect and a friction action equivalent to a friction action when a fibrous material such as rock wool is used, without using the fibrous material directed to the restriction of its use as the fibrous base material of the friction material for work environmental hygiene. SOLUTION: In this friction material comprising a granular material blended with a fibrous base material, a friction-adjusting material and a binder, wherein the non-fibrous granular material of rock wool, slag wool or Al2O3-SiO2 based ceramic as an abrasive component, is used. The non-fibrous granular material is preferably its shot or crushed product, is preferably subjected to a surface treatment using a silane coupling agent, a phenolic resin, or the like, is preferably added in an amount of 0.5 to 20 wt.% based on the total weight of the friction material, and preferably has a particle diameter of 2 to 100μm. |
