An EPL replacement system and method which automatically determine whether an EPL should be replaced. A data file contains time data describing an age of the electronic price label. A computer reads the data file and determines whether the age of the electronic price label is greater than a predetermined threshold period for the electronic price label. If the age of the electronic price label is greater than the predetermined threshold period, the computer provides an indication that the electronic price label should be replaced.
