PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly water-absorbing and highly biodegradable resin at a low cost by using a resin obtained by hydrolysis of a crosslinking reaction product of polysuccinimides and polysaccharides. SOLUTION: A resin obtained by hydrolysis of a crosslinking reaction product of preferably 100 pts.wt. of polysuccinimides and preferably 0.1-1,000 pts.wt. of polysaccharides is used. It is preferable to impart an absorbency of 10 g/g or more of physiological salt solution to the resin. Methods for obtaining polysuccinimides include, for example, heated dehydration condensation of D/L aspartic acid in the presence of phosphoric acid if necessary; and production from maleimide and maleamic acid obtained by reacting maleic anhydride, fumaric acid, malic acid or the like with NH3 under heat. As the polysuccinimides, carboxyalkylcellulose, hydroxyalkylcellulose, carboxyalkylstarch and hydroxyalkylstarch are preferable.
