The wear monitoring method for a machine tool bit (2) uses a measuring signal from a swarf cutting sensor (6) which is transformed through a wavelet-function t a wavelet-coefficient. The resulting coefficient is used to determine the wear value for the bit. The wear characteristic can be taken as a vibration level in the system formed by the bit and workpiece, with the wear sensor used as a vibration sensor to determine wear. |
