PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic controller for controlling height against a ridge in vine cutter for sweet potato capable of finely cutting vines of sweet potato as bar as possible without fear of breaking a mulching film covering the ridge. SOLUTION: This cutter comprises a sensor roller 60 which is hung from the rear end of a flail mower body 18 for cutting vines, rolling on the surface of a ridge A to detect the height of the ridge, a detected ridge height signal is fed back from the sensor roller 60 to an oil pressure control valve of an oil cylinder device 10 on a tractor body T through a mechanical link system or electric wiring, the height of the flail mower body 18 against the ridge is kept constant by the oil cylinder device 10, and flail blades 28 are liftably controlled in the range same as the vertical movement range of the sensor roller 60.
