PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction device for a pump, capable of preventing quantity of drain from being lowered, and of preventing a drain operation from disabling by restraining a strainer from being clogged with time passage. SOLUTION: A strainer 2 to be mounted to the suction port of an under-water pump, is outfitted to the inside of a revolving current generating shell 3, and an introduction passage 4 introducing water to the revolving current generating shell 3 is provided, while current is being oriented to the tangential line of the revolving current generating shell 3 or to a place close to the tangential line. Water introduced into the revolving current generating shell 3 from the introduction passage 4 is converted into a revolving current R by driving the under-water pump, and solid foreign materials contained in the revolving current R are one-sided to the outer circumferential area of the revolving current generating shell 3 to be revolved around the strainer 2, in such a way that they are hardly sucked into the strainer 2, and the strainer 2 is thereby prevented from being clogged.
