PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing algae, capable of effectively inhibiting the growth of in storage water or on the surface coming into contact with circulating water, and having high safety against organisms. SOLUTION: At least either of a granular algicide supporting an algicide represented by M1aAbM2c(PO4).nH2O (M1 is at least one kind of l-valent metal ion selected from among silver, copper, and zinc (l is a positive integer); A is at least one kind of m-valent ion selected from among alkali metal ion, alkaline earth metal ion, ammonium ion, and hydrogen ion (m is a positive integer); M2 is a tetravelent metal ion; n is a number satisfying 0<=n<=6; a and b are a positive number satisfying la+mb=1 or la+mb=2; c and d are 2 and 3 respectively when la+mb=1, and are 1 and 2 respectively when la+mb=2) on the surface of granulated ceramics and an object to be prevented from generating algae is brought into contact with water, and the granular algicide or the water which has been brought into contact with the granular algicide is made to come into contact with the object to be prevented from generating algae or the water coming into contact with the object.
