PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form colored images or the like from images obtained in a digital form by embossing dots of a specific maximum diameter and a specific distance range onto a material having a durable surface that can be embossed. SOLUTION: Dots having a maximum diameter of 1000μm and including a pattern of parallel lines of an interval in a range of 100-2000 nm depending on colors to be formed are embossed on a material having a durable surface that can be embossed, whereby colored images are formed. In this case, dots to be embossed are separated to at least two areas. A line of one area forms an angle different by approximately 0-180 deg. from a line of a second area. Lines of the two areas are preferably perpendicular to each other. Moreover, six dots having different line intervals are used which generate blue, green, red, yellow, magenta and cyan colors by interference. Dots corresponding to the different line intervals are imprinted adjacent to each other, whereby a mixed color is generated from the colors.
