PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified TIMP(Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase) which is used for elucidating the activation mechanism of matrix metalloproteinase and is useful for medicines and the like), by modifying anα-amino group at the NH2 terminal of TIMP to eliminate the binding property of the metalloproteinase. SOLUTION: This modified TIMP is obtained by modifying anα-amino group at the NH2 terminal of TIMP to eliminate the binding property of the metalloproteinase. The modified TIMP is preferably a modified TIMP-2, and when the modified TIMP is added, the formation of complexes such as MT- MMP, TIMP-2 and gelatinase A including TIMP can be inhibited in vitro. The modified TIMP is preferably mixed with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to prepare a medicinal composition for inhibiting cancer metastasis or vascularization.
