PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discharge paddy from circular separation plates dividedly to respective stages of separation start, run and end by receiving the reflected light of the paddy and unpolished rice on the circular separation plates by paddy/unpolished rice detecting sensors and controlling the opening and closing of a paddy discharge means according to the signals of the paddy/unpolished rice detecting sensors which receive this light. SOLUTION: The rotary shaking separator is constituted by disposing the circular separation plates 4A and 4B of a conical shape formed with the centers in a low position and the peripheral edges at a higher position at two stages one above the other below and disposing the paddy/unpolished rice detecting sensors 28 respectively above these separation plates 4A and 4B. These paddy/ unpolished rice detecting sensors 28 receive the reflected light of the paddy and the unpolished rice and discriminate the boundaries between the paddy layer region and unpolished rice layer region on the respective separation plates 4A and 4B. The paddy/unpolished rice detecting sensors 28 output the on signals to activate the paddy discharge means 19 in the case of the paddy and output the off signals to hold the paddy discharge means 19 inoperative in the case of the unpolished rice.
