PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool usable in removal of residue fixed in a furnace under high temperature environment exceeding 1000 deg.C, for example, a furnace temperature exceeding 1000 deg.C and application, such as removal of a substance stuck to the surfaces of a large polishing member having flexibility, various apparatuses, having the polishing member, and various devices. SOLUTION: A member for polishing is prepared by impregnating carbon fibers and other carbon than carbon fibers with metal silicon and formed of a composite material consisting of carbon, silicon carbide, and metal silicon or carbon and silicon carbide. The member for polishing is not decreased in weight exceeding 5% even under working environment that the member is exposed to a high temperature of 1000 deg.C for a long period on condition that surface coarseness Ra is 10-100μm, a wear amount during a room temperature and a high temperature is substantially zero, and oxygen is poor.
