PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate construction work of a bridge pier footing in a river or lake, etc., that has little tide. SOLUTION: The inside of a caisson 10 is previously partitioned into a section 12 having a through hole 13 which coincides with a foundation pile 15 and communicated with water, and a section 14 into which water can be poured, the section 14 being not in communication with water. The caisson 10 is floated on water and towed over the foundation pile 15 and water is poured into the caisson 14 to raise the draft of the caisson 10 so that the foundation pile 15 coincides with the through hole 13. After water is drained from the section 14, the foundation pile 15 is connected to the caisson 10. Thus, the caisson 10 can be sunk into position and joined to the foundation pile 15 without utilizing tides, whereby construction work of a bridge pier footing is facilitated.
