摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make excellent the workability, thermal conductivity and wear resistance of a composite member by forming a hard part contg. a specified amt. of an intermetallic compd. phase on the surface of a base material composed of a sintered compact having a mixed phase structure of an intermetallic compd. phase and an elemental metallic phase and having a compsn. the same as that of the hard part. SOLUTION: Elemental metal powders A and B composing an intermetallic compd phased AB are blended at a prescribed ratio, which are mixed and pressed to form to form a green compact, and, by hot press molding, a sintered compact having a mixed phase structure composed of an elemental metallic phase A, an elemental metallic phase B and an intermetallic compd. phase AB is formed. By using this sintered compact as a base material 11, the surface is irradiated with a high energy beam such as a laser, an electron beam or the like, the whole face of the base material 11 is subjected to high frequency heating to form a hard part 12 having an intermetallic compd. phase AB of 90 to 100 vol.% and to obtain a composite member 1. Moreover, as the intermetallic compd. AB, by atomic ratio, FexAl1-x, NixAl1-x, TixAl1-x, NbxAl1-x, MoxAl1-x or the like where, (x)=0.8 to 0.2} is preferably used.
