PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate which has carbonate structural units having long-chain alkyl groups as side chains and gives a molded article or film excellent in slipperiness and slidability. SOLUTION: A solution of a bisphenol compound of formula II in an organic solvent is used for the polymerization for producing a polycarbonate having structural units of formula I. In the formulas, Y9 and Y10 are each a monovalent organic residue derived from a 4C or higher aliphatic alcohol and a 1C or higher carboxylic ester, a 1-10C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a 3-10C unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, halogen, haloalkyl, alkoxy or a 6-20C aromatic hydrocarbon group provided at least one of them is a monovalent organic residue derived from a 4C or higher aliphatic alcohol and a 1C or higher carboxylic ester; and Y1 to Y8 are each H, a 1-10C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a 3-10C unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, halogen, haloalkyl, alkoxy or a 6-20C aromatic hydrocarbon group.
