PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize a step formed at a joint between a counterweight and a skirt cover, and to improve the appearance of an upper rotary body of a rotary construction machine. SOLUTION: A portion of a left skirt cover 22, which is in the vicinity of a counterweight 6 is formed into a circular arc surface 22A, and the rear end of the left skirt cover 22, which is inserted into a cover joining groove 8 of the counterweight 6 has a continuous reduced-diameter surface 22B formed thereon. Further, a portion of a right skirt cover 23, which is in the vicinity of the counterweight 6 is formed into a circular arc surface 23A, and the rear end of the right skirt cover 23, which is inserted into the cover joining groove 8 of the counterweight 6 has a continuous reduced-diameter surface 23B formed thereon. Thus, a step formed at a joint between the counterweight 6 and the left skirt cover 22, and a step formed at a joint between the counterweight 6 and the right skirt cover 23 can be reduced to small ones, which improves the appearance of an upper rotary body of the rotary construction machine.
