ERBIUM-DOPED OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE: An Erbium-doped optical fiber is provided to be capable of realizing a gain leveling without using a separate filter by forming a long-period lattice at a core of the Erbium-doped optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: An Erbium-doped optical fiber comprises a core(161) and a cladding(163). The core(161) guides light, and is formed by doping erbium to a silica substantially. A long-period lattice(162) is formed in the core so as to have iterated intervals. The cladding(163) surrounds the core, and has a refractive index less than that of the core. An optical amplifier comprises a first isolator(50), a first pump laser diode(PLD,52), a wavelength selecting coupler(54), the Erbium-doped optical fiber(56) and a second isolator(18).
