PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided to achieve a significantly precise measuring of rope length while setting a counter by a length value obtained by an expression calculating differently in accordance with the type of stranding facility and diameter of wire rope. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a drawing drum(21) constituting a stranding facility, a split pin(23) arranged at a side surface of the drawing drum so as to split an outer periphery of the drawing drum in 10cm spacings, a sensor(24) installed in the vicinity of the split pin and which senses rotational movement of the split pin, and a counter(25) for receiving a sensed signal from the sensor, calculating a migration length of the wire rope by the sensed signal, and displaying the current length of the wire rope onto a display(25a).
