PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for cooling air are provided to improve cooling efficiency of a bearing supporting a shaft by improving a bearing cooling unit. CONSTITUTION: An air cooling apparatus comprises a turbine housing(22), a compressor housing(25), a turbine impeller(24), a compressor impeller(27), a bearing case(28) having bearing members, an air pathway(210), and a heat exchanger(220). A portion of air flowing into an air inlet port is guided into the air pathway. The air is heat-exchanged via a heat medium flowing in the air inlet port in the heat exchanger. The air cooled by heat exchange flows into bearings(28a,28b) rotatably supporting a shaft(21).
