PURPOSE: An electronic dictionary and its control method is provided to convert a plurality of word forms into one representative word in the case that one word has a plurality of inflections in a general dictionary or one concept has a plurality of notations so that it can make it easy searching for information in the electronic dictionary. CONSTITUTION: The electronic dictionary comprises a data input module(10), a search word storage device(41), a representative word storage device(42), a data storage device(43), a microprocessor(20), and a display(30). The data input module(10) inputs search words via a keypad or a scanner. The search word storage device(41) stores a group of search words with respect to one search concept, and the representative word storage device(42) stores one representative word with respect to the group of the search words. The data storage device(43) stores an explanation on each representative word. The microprocessor(20) searches for a search word in the search word storage device(41) and reads an address of the representative word storage device(42) storing a word representative of the search word and an address of the data storage device(43) storing the corresponding explanation.
