PURPOSE: A shock absorber for a vehicle is provided to improve a ride comfort, by reducing a damping force in a road, whose surface condition is good, by forming enlarged projections in a middle part of a cylinder. CONSTITUTION: A cylinder(2) serves as a guide and is connected with a vehicle body together with a long case(1). A piston(4) reciprocates in the cylinder and is connected with the lower part through a piston rod(3). A piston valve(5) controls the flow of the fluid filled the cylinder. Several enlarged projections(2a) are in the outer circumference of a middle part of the cylinder in order that the fluid in the cylinder moves to a lower pressure side. So a damping force is reduced in a smooth road, a ride comfort is improved.
