PURPOSE: A handover method for a wireless communication system is provided for continuously maintaining certain communication quality of a mobile terminal moving between a central system and a base station. CONSTITUTION: A wireless communication system having a multiplex cell structure includes a central system(20) controlling a base station and connecting an external switch system, base stations(21,22) connecting the central system(20) and a mobile terminal(23), a portable mobile terminal(23), and a multiplex-superposed cell. A base station(21) which manages the current cell measures an electric field intensity of a signal periodically received from the mobile terminal(23). When the electric field intensity of the signal is below a previously set critical value for a certain time, a handover is requested to the central system.
