IMAGE DATA DIVIDING APPARATUS USING BIT RATE-DISTORTION CHARACTERISTIC AND METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An image data dividing apparatus using a bit rate-distortion characteristic and a method thereof are provided to maximize the quality of the image by using Partition0(bit stream with higher priority) only. CONSTITUTION: The image data dividing apparatus using a bit rate-distortion characteristic includes a bit rate-distortion function calculator(51), an overall bit rate-distortion function calculator(52), a target bit calculator(56), a target distortion calculator(53), a break point calculator(54) and an image data divider(55). The bit rate-distortion function calculator(51) receives coding information, detects bit rate and distortion for each slice, and calculates a bit rate-distortion curve. The overall bit rate-distortion function calculator(52) adds the bit rate-distortion curves of each slice in a bit-rate axes so as to fine an overall bit rate-distortion curve. The target bit calculator(56) calculates the target bit allocated for a bit rate of higher bit-rate. The break point calculator(54) uses the target distortion and the distortion function calculated at the bit rate-distortion function calculator so as to calculate the target distortion corresponding to a priority break point corresponding to a distortion closest to the target distortion. The image data divider(55) uses the priority break points so as to divide image data in a current frame.
