PURPOSE: A method for absent subscriber message services in an ISDN(Integrated Services Digital Network) exchange is provided to check caller IDs to transmit the absent subscriber messages according to the callers, so as to improve an absent subscriber service. CONSTITUTION: An ISDN(Integrated Services Digital Network) exchange decides whether digital telephones(106,108) are in an absent subscriber mode, when terminating calls are transmitted from callers. If so, the first table retrieves caller IDs. The third table retrieves indexes indicating absent subscriber messages corresponding to the caller IDs. The second table reads the absent subscriber messages corresponding to the indexes. The ISDN transmits the read absent subscriber messages to the callers. The ISDN displays the transmitted absent subscriber messages on LCDs(Liquid Crystal Displays)(B) of the digital telephones(106,108).
