PURPOSE: A computer converting to a suspend mode automatically is provided to convert a computer body to the suspend mode when a user equips the body to a docking system even not turning-off the power of the computer body. CONSTITUTION: A docking system, extending device in a handheld computer, extends a monitor, a key board, a speaker, a power port, a video display, a printer, a communication, a USB(universal serial bus) port, a CD-ROM drive and a hard disk drive to handheld computer. The handheld computer has a connection protecting unit(20) protecting a docking connection part connected with a docking system. A sensing unit(54) generates an attachment sensing signal(55) when a main body of the handheld computer(50) is attached to the docking system(52). The attachment sensing signal(55) is transmitted to a converting control unit(56). The converting control unit(56) converts an operating status of the handheld computer to suspend mode by using the attachment sensing signal(55). The converting control unit(56) uses a main processor of the handheld computer or an auxiliary processor for suspend.
