PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling the driving of a kimchi storage tank comprising a plurality of drawers keeping kimchi in cold storage are provided, to defrost the frozen drawers with thermoelements, thereby preventing troubles caused by the forcible opening of frozen drawers. CONSTITUTION: The control apparatus comprises a defrosting button, a control part, a thermoelement operation part supplying normal or reverse direct current voltage by the control signal of the control part, and a plurality of thermoelements cooling or heating the inside of the drawers by generating endothermic or exothermic action by the D.C. voltage. The method includes the following steps of: (i) judging if a defrosting step is chosen through the defrosting button; (ii) performing the defrosting process to heat the inside of the input drawer by operating a thermoelement corresponded to the drawer for a preset defrosting time; and (iii) stopping the operation of the thermoelement when the preset defrosting time is over and after passage of a prefixed pause time, operating the thermoelement to cool the inside of the drawer.
