PURPOSE: An optimal air flow applying method is provided to prevent idling rpm(revolutions per minute) from being lowered and to improve stability by supplying air additionally, and to control idling precisely by controlling feedback of idling with calculating the optimal air flow according to the operational range in load. CONSTITUTION: The rpm(Nx) required in load is compared with actual rpm(N) measured from a fly wheel in applying a load(Lx) during idling an engine. The difference between the required rpm and the actual rpm is compensated with the air flow in passing through a proportional counter and an integrator. The load is connected to a two-dimensional map having rpm and load in changes of traveling condition of a vehicle. An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) outputs the air compensating amount(Mx) memorized in the two-dimensional map. The actual air flow(A1) is calculated by adding the air compensating amount from the map to the air flow required in the load. The engine stop is prevented, and the operation is improved without changes of the engine rpm at load in idle operation by applying the optimal air flow according to the operational range in idling.
