PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting a vertical synchronous signal of a digital television is provided to detect a vertical synchronous signal by using only the most significant bit. CONSTITUTION: A code bit extraction portion(41) extracts only bits having code information of input data. A reference signal generation portion(42) generates a pattern of a vertical synchronous signal and a reference vertical synchronous signal by using a generation polynomial whenever a horizontal synchronous signal is input. A comparison portion(43) determines a decided data segment as a vertical synchronous signal section by comparing an output of the code bit extraction portion(41) with an output of the reference signal generation portion(42) each data segment.
