PURPOSE: An apparatus for searching a broadcasting channel and a method thereof are provided to display program edit screen on a remote controller thereby reducing searching time. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for searching a broadcasting channel includes a selector, a micro computer(12), a first transmitter(15) and a first receiver(16). The selector separates a video programming system code in a television signal so as to extract broadcasting information for each channel. The micro computer(12) defines broadcasting information for each channel according to the broadcasting information extracted from the selector and outputs a control signal corresponding to the broadcasting information. The first transmitter(15) transmits broadcasting information defined for each channel according to the control signal from the micro computer. The first receiver(16) receives the broadcasting information transmitted from outside. The apparatus for searching a broadcasting channel further includes a second receiver(21), a memory(23), a display(25), a selector(29), a controller(26), a display controller(24) and a second transmitter(28).
