PREPARATION OF DIMERIC ACID USING FATTY ACID

PURPOSE: A preparation of dimeric acid is provided, that can produce the dimeric acid from fatty acid having relatively low content of unsaturated fatty acid. CONSTITUTION: The preparation of dimeric acid comprises the steps of : adding 5 to 40 pts.wt. of water being 0 to 30°C to 100 pts.wt. of fatty acid, wherein the titer temperature is from 15 to 30°C and the content of unsaturated fatty acid is from 65 to 85%; agitating the mixture at 100 to 1000 rpm for 5 to 30 min. to obtain a flowable paste; removing a higher saturated fatty acid by a filtration or a centrifuge to provide liquid unsaturated fatty acid with the content being 85 to 95%; and adding 0.5 to 5 pts.wt. of water and 0.5 to 5 pts.wt of montmorillonite acid clay or lithium stabilized montmorillonite acid clay to 100 pts.wt. of the liquid unsaturated fatty acid, followed by polymerizing at 180 to 270°C under a pressure of 8 to 30 kg/cm¬2 for 4 to 8hrs.
